Swivel or Locked ?

The Baby Jogger Summit X3 front wheel can be changed from swivelling to locked. It can be locked into two positions either under the pushchair or projecting forwards.

In Swivel mode the pushchair is easier to manouevre on a relatively smooth and flat surface, and the majority of users will have the front wheel swivelling most of the time. However you have to 'steer' the pushchair even to go in a straight line, on rough ground the surface will direct the pushchair or if traversing a slope it will go down hill like an errant shopping trolley and you will have to fight to steer it !

In Locked mode the pushchair will be far less affected by the surface or slope and take less effort to move forwards, push with one hand - leaving one hand free for a dog lead or toddler.

Swivel mode for Town and Locked mode for Off Road or Jogging would be true generally although in practice most people keep the pushchair in Swivel Mode for all but extreme off road use.

Swivel Mode

The Front Wheel will naturally swivel unless one of the two front wheel locks is operated

At the side of the seat near the top on the right (just behind the sun hood) is an operating lever to lock the front wheel under the pushchair. When operated the end of the lever is nearest the handle.

To release the lever slide the grey catch and move the lever downwards. see below

On the front wheel fork is a second locking button to lock the front wheel forwards. When this locking button is operated the front wheel will lock forwards BUT the locking button will then be unhelpfully concealed on the reverse of the front fork.

To release the button reach behind the front fork and de-activate it.

Locked Under

From your usual position at the rear of the pushchair you can lock the front wheel under the pushchair. At the side of the seat near the top on the right (just behind the sun hood) is a lever to operate the lock.

To operate the lock move the lever up towards you, when the swivelling wheel aligns straight it will lock automatically

note, a grey catch will be engaged to avoid accidental release, you will need to dis-engage this catch before moving the lever downwards to return to swivel mode

Locked Forwards

To lock the front wheel forwards you will need to go around to the front of the pushchair. When in the normal swivelling position the locking button will be on the face of the front fork.

To operate the button move it to the right and up, rotate the front wheel around until it is fowards, when the swivelling wheel aligns straight it will lock automatically. if you walk a few steps backwards with the pushchair this will reverse the direction of the front wheel.

note. when locked forwards the locking button will then be unhelpfully concealed on the reverse of the front fork you will need to reach behind the front fork and de-activate the button to return to swivel mode.
